In 2023, artists reached us from everywhere, from TikTok and other social media to streaming sites like Deezer and traditional methods. It’s never been easier to make a name in music.
Looking ahead to 2024, the following artists are preparing to make the biggest sonic waves. These artists cover a wide range of styles, from pop and country to hyperpop and hip-hop — and promise both new music, live concert tours, and more.
Taylor Swift
Few artists have commanded a year like Swift has in 2023, featuring achievements such as double-hit albums, smash singles, a record-breaking tour, a popular concert film, and an NFL-player romance to cap the year off. And 2024 is shaping up to reach more highs. Her Eras Tour continues throughout the year, starting in Japan in February and wrapping up in Vancouver, British Columbia, on December 8. She’ll also stop in Australia and Singapore, with a European leg that includes dates in France, the UK, and Ireland, among others. With the fourth of her six early-album remakes, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), dropping in October 2023, rumors are that the fifth may be released in 2024. With only Reputation and Taylor Swift (a.k.a. her debut album) left to re-record, it’s anyone’s guess which will come first.
SZA
The hip-hop and R&B artist had her biggest year in 2023, with her second studio album, SOS, starting the year atop the Billboard album charts. The single, “Kill Bill,” also became her number-one hit on the Hot 100. In 2024, SZA will continue her SOS concert tour in Latin America and Oceania, with dates still being worked out. She also announced a new project, Lana, described as a “deluxe” version of SOS, though no release date has been set. The new album will feature a handful of new songs, according to the singer in an interview with Variety, along with outtakes and remixes.
Noah Kahan
Following the success of his 2022 breakthrough album, Stick Season, Kahan will start 2024 off as a Grammy nominee for Best New Artist, with the winner to be announced at the 66th Awards Ceremony in February. The Vermont-born folk-pop singer released collaborations with Hozier (“Northern Attitude”), Post Malone (“Dial Drunk”), and Kacey Musgraves (“She Calls Me Back”) in 2023, and will spend the first half of 2024 headlining the “We’ll All Be Here Forever Tour,” which promises to be one of the year’s hottest tickets (with many dates already sold out). Then it’s off to start work on his next studio album, with hopefully a new single or two dropped before the year’s out.
Tyla
South African newcomer Tyla saw her amapiano (South African subgenre of house music) single, “Water,” become a viral dance video on TikTok in 2023. That launched the song onto the Billboard charts, where it peaked at number 10 on the Hot 100, the highest position ever achieved by an African female vocalist. Her self-titled debut album is currently scheduled for release on March 1, 2024, and is set to include a remix of “Water” featuring American rapper Travis Scott. And, fresh off supporting Chris Brown‘s tour in 2023, Tyla will launch her own international tour in 2024, kicking off in Oslo in March, with stops across Europe and parts of North America before concluding in May.
Kenya Grace
Grace‘s dance-pop single “Strangers” topped the British and Billboard Dance/Electronic charts in 2023, an impressive accomplishment for her major label debut. She was also included in the BBC’s Sound of 2024 list, the UK broadcasting giant’s annual assessment of the upcoming year’s hottest artists. She dropped her newest single, “Paris,” in December and looks to release her first studio album in 2024, though no date has been announced. She will also be hitting the road, playing at the Mad Cool festival in Spain and the Melt festival in Germany in July before cooling down at Finland’s Flow festival in August.
Isabel LaRosa
Still a teenager, LaRosa is becoming a creative force in the industry. Her 2022 singles, “Haunted” and “I’m Yours,” took off on TikTok, gaining millions of views and a burgeoning social media presence. She co-directed and co-edited the accompanying visuals for the songs herself, a testament to the importance of image to the singer. She kicks off 2024 with a series of performances in Europe, bringing her moody electropop to Paris, London, Cologne, Berlin, and Warsaw.
Rachel Chinouriri
British indie-pop songstress Chinouriri found initial success on social media, where her 2021 acoustic version of her single, “So My Darling,” first gained traction (especially on TikTok, where it soundtracked over 134,000 videos). A 2022 EP, Better Off Without, garnered her more attention, and she spent much of 2023 playing British festivals like Lattitude, Truck, and All Points East while continuing work on her debut album. In October 2023, she released a new single, “The Hills,” an intense, guitar-driven song about feeling alienated while staying in a house in the hills of Los Angeles while missing her home in London. For 2024, she’s announced a London headlining gig in March and expects to release her debut studio album.
The Last Dinner Party
After the April 2023 Island Records release of their first single, “Nothing Matters” — a lively pop confection built around an earworm of a chorus sung in rich harmonies — British art-poppers The Last Dinner Party spent part of 2023 supporting Florence and the Machine on tour and hitting local festivals like Glastonbury and Lattitude. Their debut studio album, Prelude to Ecstasy, is set to drop on February 2 and will likely include strong follow-up singles like “Sinner” and “On Your Side,” as well as their infectious debut.
Paris Paloma
Alternative folk singer-songwriter Paloma announced herself in a big way in 2023 with “Labour,” the British newcomer’s first professionally recorded single. The song plastered TikTok with its tale of overworked women in underwhelming relationships and was soon adopted as a feminist anthem by those who related to its story. She followed it up with another banger in October 2023, “As Good a Reason,” this one taking aim at the “old man somewhere seething” at a woman’s success. We’ll be on the lookout for her debut studio album in 2024, though for anyone looking for more certain prospects, she plays live in London on January 25.
Nia Archives
Jungle and bass-and-drum DJ and producer Archives only released her first EP, Headz Gone West, in 2021, but has already caught the eye of the UK music industry. She won the NME Award for Best Producer in 2022 and was nominated for the Brit Award for Rising Star in 2023. In 2024, she’ll look to keep the momentum rolling, with a tour through Australia on the calendar for February before returning to Europe for the Sónar Lisboa festival in Portugal set for March and the Sziget festival in Budapest in August.
Young Miko
After charting on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with her summer 2023 reggaeton single, “Classy 101,” and being named Billboard’s 2023 Latin Rookie of the Year, the Latin trap and rap artist Young Miko kicks off her 2024 music list with a spot on the lineup for the Calibash festival at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on January 12. She’ll follow her appearance at the growing Latin music festival up with a swing through Mexico in March, with stops set for Monterrey, Zapopan, and Mexico City.
Spiritbox
After steadily building a fanbase over the last few years for their brand of metalcore, things kicked up a notch in 2023 for Canadian hard rockers Spiritbox with the release of the six-song EP The Fear of Fear. A sold-out headlining tour of the US and UK showcased their live prowess, while a collaboration with Megan Thee Stallon on a remix of her song “Cobra” showed their range. A Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song “Jaded” crowned the year, naturally. For 2024, they’ll be opening for veteran metal masters Korn at their July 30th show in Katowice, Poland. Singer Courtney LaPlante has announced the band’s intent to release their debut full-length studio album, though an official release date has yet to be set.
ThxSoMch
Canadian singer-songwriter ThxSoMch will be launching his own headlining tour across North America in 2024, with a kickoff set for New York City’s Mercury Lounge on April 6th. This follows an epic 2023 for the indie rocker, with his biggest single yet, “Spit in My Face!,” chalking up over 310 million international streams since its December 2022 drop. It reached number nine on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Glaive
American hyperpop wunderkind Glaive dropped his first full-length studio album in 2023, I Care So Much That I Don’t Care at All, filled with hooky choruses, rich production, and raw, soul-baring lyrics. Much of 2023 was spent on the road, headlining across the US and swinging into Northern Europe for stops in the UK, Paris, Brussels, Cologne, and Berlin. What 2024 holds for the teenage singer-songwriter remains to be seen, though having completed six EPs and a studio LP since 2020, expect to see some new recordings coming sooner rather than later.
