Yo Gotti Read This Interview Which Talks Down In The DM
“Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Yo Gotti’s “Down In The DM” has taken the Rap world by storm. Sharing those freaky tales that always seem to happen on Twitter and Instagram, the catchy tune is easy to relate to and is so trend worthy, it’s become one of the most popular memes online.
While promoting his new album “The Art Of Hustle” which will be available February 19th, Yo Gotti sat down with us to answer a few questions. See below!”
Q: With rappers like Young Dolph blowing up, how do you feel about the current state of Memphis Rap?
A: With new rappers coming up in Memphis and how I feel about the current state of the city of music… I support it, you know? I was one of them rappers at one point. I came as a solo artist in the game at one point with no groups I had to handle, or big label deals, or really no help, so I support all the talent that’s coming up out of the city right now. You know, and I think it’s good talent as well.
Q: Name an album that’s had the most influence on you becoming an artist and why?
A: One of my favorite albums that I say had a big influence on me was Juvenile’s “400 Degreez.” I fell in love with that album. I just feel like that’s one of my favorite albums for a long time. I was already in the game and rapping but that album made me want to rap more, it made me want to really do it. Before that, I think I was doing it just to be doing it but the streets was really my main focus. “400 Degreez”, when all came out was like when I started to think I started to take this shit really seriously.
Q: The Return felt like an album. Was any of the material from that mixtape meant for your upcoming album “Art of Hustle” and if so, which songs?
A: So “The Return” felt like an album. To me all the mixtapes feel like albums, you know what I mean? I think it’s just a title. When I do twelve songs, I’m doing twelve songs that I think have quality, so whether you call the mixtape an album or an EP, to me, it’s all album material.
Q: Favorite place to eat while on the road touring?
A: My favorite place to eat when I’m on the road touring? It’s different places, I don’t got no one place because if we‘re in DC, we’re going to Ben’s Chili Bowl or something. If we’re in Philly, we’re going to get a Philly cheese steak, whatever the landmark food restaurant is in whatever city it is. If you ain’t got no landmark in your city, then we probably just catch some soul food or something like that.
Q: In the words of Pimp C, finish the sentence: “If I wasn’t rapping…'”?
A: In the famous words of Pimp C, “If I weren’t rapping, I’d probably still be out rapping.” That’s real talk. [Laughs]
